Please Vote for Robert Schaaf - HB City School Board

Earlier this month, Save HB Community distributed information about Don Hansen who is running for re-election to the HB City Council.   Some of you responded that you did not support him because of his position on other important city issues.  Save HB Community is solely focused on preserving our school sites and Don Hansen is one of the City Council members who has been supportive of our cause.

Keith Bohr is another City Council member who is seeking re-election and has been supportive of our cause and for this reason, we encourage you to consider voting for him as well.

As with any election, selecting the candidate who receives your vote is an important and personal decision involving the review and analysis of several factors unique to each individual voter.  As stated in our email, Save HB Community simply wishes to encourage your consideration of candidates who has been supportive of our cause.

So much more important to our cause than the City Council race is the fact that two seats are opening on the HB City School District Board and three people are vying for the positions.

Thankfully, we have a new candidate in the race who believes in saving our school sites.  Save HB Community unanimously supports Robert Schaaf for the HB City School Board and encourages you to join us as we seek to change the complexion of the board, one member at a time.  As a concerned parent and citizen, Robert has worked hard to keep the four closed school campuses for the people of Huntington Beach and out of the hands of developers.  As a member of the Huntington Beach Environmental Board, he has continued his work advocating passionately for the city to retain these assets for everyone.  In addition to protecting our district’s assets, Robert Schaaf truly desires to elevate the performance and success of our district and the educational experience for our children.  He is a dedicated individual who is open to hearing his constituents’ thoughts and opinions and taking that back to the Board to represent our community and do the right thing for our children.  While we have enjoyed success in protecting some of our surplus school sites, our mission is not yet complete.  The future of the LeBard and Kettler campuses remain uncertain.  We must elect a new member to the board who will represent our interests and save our school sites…and that person is Robert Schaaf!

We respectfully request your vote for Mr. Robert Schaaf for the HB City School District Board.

As for the incumbents who seek re-election, we strongly encourage you NOT to vote for Catherine McGough as she has repeatedly voted against preserving the school sites, stating she would like to “divest the school district of these surplus properties”, was opposed to the lease extensions of Gisler and Burke to private Christian schools, and was not receptive to meeting with Save HB Community to understand our position.  McGough has served on the Board for many years now; it’s time for us to say “Enough of McGough” and bring in someone new with fresh ideas who more closely represents our community’s interests.  While we are cautiously optimistic about Mr. Rechsteiner’s continued support of saving our school sites, in light of Ms. McGough’s terrible record on the issue and in the absence of another pro-site challenger for the seat, we encourage you to vote for him.

In summary, please vote for Robert Schaaf and Brian Rechsteiner for Huntington Beach City School Board.

By voting for Robert Schaaf, we can together save our schools for our children and for generations to come.  Please show your support on November 4 and forward this email onto your friends and neighbors.

THANK YOU!
Save HB Community

P.S. - If you would like to learn more about Robert Schaaf, please read below.

Robert Schaaf, in his own words:

I grew up in La Habra, the other end of Beach Blvd.  I attended Ladera Palma Elementary School, Imperial Jr. High, and Sonora High School, all public schools.  I graduated from USC with a degree in Chemical Engineering.   After college, I went to work as a Project Manager.  I have worked on multi-million dollar energy projects managing hundreds of people at a time in Africa, the Middle East, and here in California.   I have also overseen the construction of schools and housing for less fortunate people in Africa as part of my company’s social projects. It was in Africa working on these social projects I realized the importance of quality education for everyone.  Dictator Joseph Mobutu destroyed the education system in Zaire where I first worked overseas.  He did it to protect his power and control over the country.  Educated people were the biggest threat to stop his corruption.  Since Mobutu was ousted from power, the people of the country have tried to rebuild their schools.  They know the importance of education.  I was so happy that I could be a part of that rebuilding effort.  However, with Zaire’s (now Congo) limited resources, their task is near impossible.

Here in Huntington Beach we have the resources to have a top-notch educational system.  Mismanagement and the “system” have prevented us from achieving this objective.  Money has been squandered and issues sidestepped.   Many families are sending their children to private schools or home-schooling.  The result is public school attendance is dropping.  We need to make our schools better to get our kids back in the public schools.  Better public schools will also improve the private schools.  Competition always results in better choices.   Improved educational choices will be beneficial to everyone here in Huntington Beach.

We now have a unique opportunity here in Huntington Beach.  There are schools that are unused.  Just imagine re-opening one of the closed campuses as an Academy of Educational Excellence.  It would be a school run by the parents for the students.  Based on a strong curriculum where respect for family, community, and country would be paramount, we have the opportunity to do something special for our children.

Schools are an asset for the whole community.  Youth sports leagues need the grounds for fun enriching activities.  Other organizations use the facilities for a variety of other activities.  So many others just use the grounds for a safe place to play.  The schools also provide open space that we are in short supply here in Huntington Beach.  During emergencies, we will need the schools for shelter.   Selling our schools is unwise and short-sighted.

I am running for School Board to protect Huntington Beach’s assets and to improve significantly the educational system of our schools. I will not achieve any financial benefit from being elected, nor will my company, Aera Energy LLC.

Pease help to save our schools.  Vote for me, Robert Schaaf, on Nov. 4.

An E-mail Message from Councilman Don Hansen

September 2008

Given your interest in the negotiations with the City of Huntington Beach and the Huntington Beach City School District (HBCSD), I wanted to reach out to you today with an update on the current status of our discussions regarding the LeBard school site and related youth sports fields.

We have been in dialogue with the HBCSD for quite some time now. As you will recall, the City Council unanimously approved an offer that was ultimately declined by the HBCSD. Since the rejection of our initial proposal, we have continued to pursue negotiations with no major breakthroughs at this point.

The City still has options under the Naylor Act, which gives us the ability to purchase the parcel at a discounted price. However, our goal is to deliver a balanced and fair resolution that not only benefits the community but the HBCSD.

Rest assured that a successful outcome to these negotiations is one my top priorities. I am looking forward to reporting to you a positive result.

Crucial Meeting with School Board Set For Tuesday

Despite objections within the community, the HBCSD has rejected the latest land purchase offer from the City of Huntington Beach concerning the LeBard school site.  In light of this recent decision, all community members are being asked to attend the School District meeting set for Tuesday, July 15 at the District Offices to voice their concerns about this latest breakdown in negotiations between the City and School District Board of Trustees.

SaveSeaview E-Alert!

Hello people,

1. Latest news on the sale of LeBard!

·        Currently the School Board and the City Administration are still in negotiations for City of HB to purchase our LeBard.  This process could take some time.

·         The city drafted letter of intent for the purchase of the LeBard property.  We, on the “save our diamonds” committee, consider this a positive movement towards them purchasing it, but nothing is for sure.

·        As supporters of saving Seaview Little League, we can still possibly impact the city’s decision making process. We must take the following actions immediately and your help is needed:

2.  Get friends and neighbors to register on the www.SaveSeaview.com website for email alerts and to leave comments  Please Step up!  Please login to the website and submit your comments regarding this subject. Congratulations to Nadia Miller from T-ball Angels on winning the raffle for the Angels Tickets basket.  Thanks for all the participation

4.  The pictures that the kids drew letting us know how the want to save Seaview, went over very well!  We will be drawing 5 pictures randomly and giving out FIVE $20 gift cards to Target!  You may also find some of the pictures on www.SaveSeaview.com very soon!

HBCSD Votes to Sell LeBard School Site

The Huntington Beach City School District unanimously voted on February 19th to sell the LeBard school site and renegotiate the leases for both the Burke and Gisler school sites.

The 10 acre LeBard school site is currently the home of Seaview Little League and the district offices. The City of Huntington Beach now has the opportunity to purchase up to 30% of the property for 1/4th of it’s market value.  The remainder would have to be purchased at full market value.

The Burke school site is currently being leased to Huntington Christian School and the Gisler school site is currently being leased to Brethren Christian Junior & Senior High School. The Ketler school site will be decided upon in the near future.

Feb. 19th - School Board to Vote!

The School Board of the Huntington Beach City School District is scheduled to vote Tuesday, February 19th, regarding what to do with our community’s 4 school sites. This meeting will be at 7:00 pm, at the District Office.

The School Board will be voting on the following:

1) Whether to begin negotiations with Brethren on leasing Gisler and with HCS on leasing Burke.

2) The sale of the LeBard school site.

3) To hold off on any action, at this time, regarding the Kettler school site.

The LeBard school site is the current location for the Seaview Little League fields. Over 600 children participate in Seaview Little League. The LeBard school site could be leased for at least $360,000 a year.

As a result of the School Board’s choice to not do anything with Kettler, since it was closed, the District has already lost approximately $825,000 in possible lease income. In light of the fact that the school district is anticipating a budget cut of $2.5 million in State funding, and may not give teachers pay raises, it is imperative that the School Board determine what they are going to do with the Kettler school site as soon as possible. The Kettler school site could be used for the District Office (since is has recently modernized) or it could be leased out for at least $360,000 a year.

Please help us encourage the School Board to do the following:

Now is the time to make sure the School Board knows that the Community is supportive of negotiating leases for both the Burke (HCS) and Gisler (Brethren) school sites.

It is also important to let the School Board know that the Community wants the District to negotiate in good faith, keeping in mind that both schools have been good tenants, and that other school districts (e.g. Ocean View) are willing to lease to these schools (for less than the current leases with HBCSD) if HBCSD is not willing to offer lease terms that are a “Win-Win” for both HBCSD and the 2 tenants.

If the School Board leases out 3 of the 4 school sites (Burke, Gisler and Kettler or LeBard) and then uses the 4th site for the District Office, the District will earn a minimum of $1.3 million a year in lease income, which will increase with each passing year, for years to come!

Please send an email to the School Board and let them know your position on these issues. The email address for the School Board is:

Board@hbcsd.k12.ca.us

Also, please attend the meeting on Tuesday the 19th, and “Speak Out”, before it is too late! Even if you do not feel comfortable speaking in public, just your presence at this meeting will let the School Board know that the Community is interested and concerned about what happens to these school sites.

Feb. 5th - School Board Study Session

This coming Tuesday, February 5th, at 5:30 pm, at the District Office, the School Board will be holding a Study Session to discuss possible scenarios on what to do with the 4 school sites. Please speak to the board members about the future of our school sites.

Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace!

The School Board of the Huntington Beach City School District is scheduled, in approximately 2 weeks, to vote on what will happen with 4 of our community’s school sites.

This coming Tuesday, February 5th, at 5:30 pm, at the District Office, the School Board will be holding a Study Session to discuss possible scenarios on what to do with the 4 school sites. Four scenarios that have been brought up so far by the School Board are:

Scenario A
Move Huntington Christian to Kettler and renew their lease
Sale of Burke
Sale of LeBard (District Office)
Renew lease of Gisler (Brethren Christian)

Scenario B
Sale of Gisler (Brethren Christian’s campus)
Lease LeBard
Lease Kettler
Renew Lease of Burke (Huntington Christian)

Scenario C
Sale of LeBard (District Office)
Lease Kettler
Renew Lease of Burke (Huntington Christian)
Renew Lease of Gisler (Brethren Christian)

Scenario D
Sale of LeBard to City of Huntington Beach
Renew Lease of Burke (Huntington Christian)
Renew Lease of Gisler (Brethren Christian)
Move District Office to Kettler or Lease Kettler

If the School Board votes to Lease 3 of the 4 school sites and uses the 4th for the District office, the School District could receive a minimum of $1.3 million a year in lease income, for years to come!

Attend the meeting this Tuesday and “Speak Out”, before it is too late! Even if you do not feel comfortable speaking in public, just your presence at this meeting will let the School Board know that the Community is interested and concerned about what happens to these school sites.

22) Steve Higginbotham

23) Carmen J. Smith

24) Julie Doose - The school district needs, for once to think about the our kids. If they think that high price homes do not attract families, then take a look at Seacliff. Close that not more of our schools and interrupting our kids lives. I did not vote for this board because of their poor decision making.

25) Judith B. Reiner - As a 32-year resident of Huntington Beach in the Geisler district and neighbor of Brethren Christian it grieves me that we are once again having to fight this battle to save our precious resources for our children. Once these spaces are gone they cannot be retrieved and selling off school properties seems very short-sighted. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

26) Joanne C. Colley - I have been a neighbor of Brethren Christian School since they first leased the property and better neighbors could never be found. The soccer fields have undergone total renovation and renewal in recent years that provide resources for children and adults from all of Huntington Beach. We continue to lose "green space" daily in the name of progress but soon we will discover that no space survives and once gone there is no retrieving it. Think about future generations and the impact decisions like these will have on them. Your studied consideration in this matter is appreciated.

My child has attended Huntington Christian School and I would be sadly disappointed to see the school sold for a few dollars. That would be extremely short sighted. The school has worked hard to provide an excellent Christian, academic and social environment that is wonderful for our kids. They must be doing something right, as the classes are all full and there are people on waiting lists to get in. The members of the school board need to step up and put the welfare of our kids and future generations of kids in the forefront. I absolutely do not want these schools sold.

179) Ben De Roock

180) Joan De Roock - parent of HCS student

181) Dirk De Roock

182) Kim Douglass - there is so little space in HB as it is for our children to enjoy sports activities. These sites are home to SeaView Little League, one of the most well-maintained fields in our city, and AYSO also uses these sites. Where are our children going to go if you sell these sites? Do you realize the numbers of children, present and future that your decisions could affect? Think of the community, not your pockets.

200) Stacey Colburn

201) Ron Ahrens

202) Carol Masterson

203) Mary Ann Ahrens - My granddaughter started at HCS last year in kindergarten and learned so much more than she could possibly have learned in an overcrowded public school. This wasn't just "book learning" -- she learned to be kind, courteous and to have a heart for other people. I can't understand why you would possibly force parents to move their children out of HB to find a private school that would continue the high level of excellence and citizenship that they are learning at HCS and Brethren. Please reconsider and keep these two valuable assets in the community. Thank you for your consideration. God's blessings on you all.

204) Jayme Markle - My child attends Huntington Christian School. I have found her education there to consistently exceed my expectations. My daughter needs her education more than HB needs more cookie cutter homes.

215) Cassandra Wurm - The already increased development in Huntington since we moved here in 1993 has caused more congestion on our roads. We means more cars and therefore more pollution for our city. I think that the education of our children should be more of a concern than more homes. The removal of the existing schools will cause an influx of children into other schools making it more crowded and giving less of one on one with current teachers.

216) Michael Meer - I have lived here 14+ years and am appalled at the continued loss of space. I hope the school board knows that if they kill the space off, they are destroying there re-election options. I, for one, will make every effort to elect someone else if this happens!

217) David Richman - I have been a resident of HB for 19 years and have voted for every school bond. With four of five board members making the incredibly stupid decision to accept offers on irreplaceable land in a down real estate market, I feel the board no longer deserves our support.

229) Michelle Lambright - HCS is in our neighborhood. Their campus is beautiful! Our children play on the campus during the weekend even though they attend Hawes and Sowers. Our daughter played AYSO soccer on the campus of Brethren Christian for more than four years. Both of these sites are an asset to our children and community. It would be a shame to sell them to add more housing!

231) Karen Hoida

232) Todd Hoida

233) Michael Hoida

234) Chase Hoida

235) Susan Claudius - I have no axe to grind in this. I do not have children in the school now operating at Gisler nor do I have children in Little League. My children are grown and were brought up in Huntington Beach and thrived here. They had the good fortune to learn the lessons of independence by riding their bikes to Little League practice--something children can not do if fields are not somewhat local--where are they going to play if you sell the fields? The sports complex is some distance from many parts of the city. They had vacant lots to walk by on their way to school--there few if any left in the city. I would not like to see these things spoiled for the children growing up here now. And isn't this a disadvantageous time to be selling land to developers? You will never get the best price in this market. I would hope you would let the city enjoy being a local community.

236) Cara Jones

272) John Hobson

273) Bradley Schumann - What does the city plan to do when the housing market finally turns over from the 50+ age owners to younger owners with kids? Most of the people that bought in the mid to late sixties will have moved or be dead in the next 10-20 years. There won't be enough schools to go around for the new crop of kids. Also, there is little park and field space as it is, where is everyone supposed to hang out and play sports when all the land is being sold to private interests?

274) Debbie Schumann

275) Raul & Melissa Aguilar - Huntington Christian and Brethren are wonderful additions to the City of Huntington Beach. Please preserve these schools and community resources. H.B. Resident of 15 years.

283) Susan Fitzhugh

284) Jeffrey Fitzhugh

285) Don Class - The poor management of funds demonstrated by our school district and the drastic actions that the district is trying to take to "fix" this egregious mismanagement is absurd. I do NOT buy the argument that selling properties to developers will promote the community in the future. Community growth is fine, but becomes ridiculously contradictory when it replaces precious resources already in place and readily utilized by the members of that community (who by such usage are promoting the sense of community, sense of belonging to/pride in that community, being actively involved in said community which inevitably leads to it's prosperity

You are not making Huntington Beach a family city. This makes me said, I am a native of Huntington Beach. Don't destroy our great community of schools and sports. Where are we going to go?

312) Kristine Byer - I do not want Huntington Beach City School District to sell school sites to developers. I want to have them preserved for school and community resources both now and in the future.

313) Sharon Webb - WE do not want the school sites to be sold. We have attended HCS since it opened in 2002. We have improved the neighborhood...have used the fields for team sports..and have been able to have a school with small class sizes and teach the morals we believe in. To loose these sites would be detrimental to our district. WE DO NOT need more houses. We need more space and less people. See what happens to a society of rats when they are overcrowded.....they kill each other off. Please keep our schools available to us.

Please help preserve our community and school district as desirable. Please do the right thing for our kids, community, and quality of life.

Lets continue to provide them the opportunity to play baseball outside - not inside on their PSP!

355) Carol Hardy - We have no children, grand children or great grand children in the district, but we pay for those here. Leave those properties alone, we any need them later.

356) Richard Kolander - I live directly across the street from Brethren Christian and feel it would me a mistake to sell this site. The school district collects almost a half millions dollars in rent now. Why not sign a long term lease and have the school site available for our future needs

357) Linda Williams - Huntington Beach needs the open spaces that are left, not just for the kids but for the community. Putting up more houses would change our city in a negative way.

To terminate the leases of these and others that benefit the community to build more homes, which are not needed, is a crime against the citizens of Huntington Beach.

368) Richard Wilson - Instead of looking at the big dollar of developers, the school district should consider the dollar being paid to it now and the effect on the community as a whole. Keep HCS, Brethern Christian and other facilities that are leased and bringing in an income for the sake of our families and the community!

369) Donald Craft - Selling any schools at this time would be "painting the community into a corner". Open space for use by the citizens of the city should be considered as a requirement and there may also be a need for is additional schools in the future. 424) Bryan Bullette - Let's not be short-sited. These schools are insurance policies for growth in the educational needs of future generations. They are also paying dividends today by providing a revenue stream and a quality of life for our children. Should these sites be sold and even a conservative approach adopted where the proceeds are placed in a long-term trust for the use of the school district, there is no assurance that the funds wonGt be squandered by future administrations. It is only a sign of more to come. Pretty soon, we are a field of homes packed in like sardines with not place to congregate as a community. Please do not sell to a developer and destroy our fields!

444) Debra Jubinsky

445) Timothy A. Pointer - 9531 Dumbreck Dr. H.B. 92646 We need these sites for community private schools, recreation, and children sports activities. Where else are these children going to go? Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, North H.B. This approval by the H.B. City School District totally discounts the citizens use of these areas for developer's greed in a decreasing housing market cycle. I am a General Contractor by trade and this doesn't make sense to me as I also coach soccer & baseball on these fields as well. My children also attend one of the private schools.

465) Bob Reynolds - As a developer I understand what you are going through. I also know that that you can never replace green space. As our world changes it is very important to keep as much GREEN SPACE around as we can. Please take a look at the big picture here, 4 to 5 homes per acre or displacing thousands of young and old kids from their schools, parks and maybe their city. DON'T BUILD HOMES!

466) Kristi Reynolds

467) Katherine Jackson - When moving to Southern California we had many options of where to make a home for our family of 6. We chose HB because unlike all the cities around it, it actually has a personality, a culture, a community. Within months of buying our home, our children's elementary school, Kettler, was closed down. And now greed threatens to take away our son's little league baseball field. With homes sitting on the market unsold for months, and values dropping dramatically, selling off to developers makes no sense. And to take away what makes HB unique and special, the parks and schools which are the gathering places for this community, will devalue this area even more.

468) Michelle MacQuiddy - we really need the schools more than we need additional housing in Huntington Beach. Thank you!

469) Suzanne Olsen

470) Kory Olsen

471) Don W. Zylstra - I am a parent of two HCS students and I have coached AYSO soccer for seven years. Both HCS and AYSO have made significant dollar investments in their respective properties with the understanding that they had long-term leases. For the School District to sell off these properties, the result would be a massive loss and waste of funds that could have been better spent. Both AYSO and HSC deserve better from the School District.

472) Sherrie Wolfe - Not only do we need to preserve some open spaces but let's pay attention to the added traffic that all these new homes will create.

473) Carol Ballard

474) Natalie Wagers - HBSD volunteer (Kettler, Moffett & Sowers

475) Alisa Cutchen

476) Denis Arsenault

495) Julie Weaver - As a Mother and Aunt to children who all participate in soccer and baseball, I can't imagine having places that are close to home for them to play. Aren't we already over saturated with homes here in HB??

496) Shelley Keltner - Gisler and Burke tenants provide significant "unrestricted funds" to HBCSD. The district is looking to create ongoing revenue streams, negotiating longer term leases with the current tenants is a win-win for the community and district. Our open space should not be considered for sale-a suitable alternative must be considered. It is quite likely that funds generated from a sale will be restricted. Using money as the sole factor to make a decision is a reckless and short-sighted solution.

497) Kathleen M. Daigle

498) Chris Swartz

499) Tricia Swartz

500) John Cardullo - Selling property is easier than economizing and planning for the future, but selling is also a sure way to loose the next election or maybe be removed from your current position. That's how strongly our community feels about saving school and greenbelt for our children.

501) Mrs. John Cardullo

502) Greg Macias - preserve the seaview little league site!!!!

503) Adam Kaae - This is such a travesty. These public locations are critical to the health and well being of every child that touches foot there. How could the development of housing at these parks ever be considered beneficial to the children of Huntington Beach? More density, more traffic, less open space... Hold on to these precious resources for kids, not homes!

504) Matthew Kaae - The Kids need the open spaces!

505) Tom Power - Our parks and open field sites that we have make our homes a special place to live. More homes, and less space to enjoy our lives are not a valued thing. The little league space alone offers so much to our young children's growth and development, it would be a crying shame if that space is lost to homes. Please don't sell our school sites to developers.

506) Jeff Kress - We need to preserve our precious open space for our children. They are our future and childhood obesity has become epidemic. To sell this land that they use to play in would be a crime to humanity.

507) Tim Skaggs

508) michelle johnson

519) Fran Leibowitz - We have lived in the Kettler School tract for over 30 years. Please preserve our schools and our parks. HB has enough homes, concrete and asphalt. We need to keep the green grass, trees and open spaces. That is the beauty of HB. PLEASE, don't destroy that beauty of our city with over development.

520) Ira Leibowitz - The city is getting too dense, please save these lands for public use. I would support a tax to pay for development for public use.

521) Nancy Withers

522) Michael Withers

523) Suzette Perez - Let's learn by the mistakes LA has made. Their children are bored and frustrated. Their crimes rates speak for themselves. I think we can be smarter than that. We owe it to our kids. They have so little freedom because of our unsafe society. Let's keep these safe haven sites a place that we as educated and responsible adults preserve for our community.

534) Tania Scheid - We play baseball at lebard,We hold scout meetings at lebard,We play Tennis at lebard, We play soccer on the fields. There is no going back.

I do not want something taken away from them that encourages healthy outside exercise and socialization. please take this into consideration.

563) Kevin W. Brown - 1. The school district didn't project the current over-abundance of school space, so how can they project what will happen in 10-15 years? We might NEED more school space then, so where would they get it? Even now, Sowers is maxed out and using portables, so we may need the Brethren site sooner than we think! 2. Does the Board expect to use the sale proceeds to fix the short-term budget (bad idea

565) Scott Pinkham

566) James Clayton - The last thing this community needs is more development, and or home construction!!! Do what is right...we need not be money whores!!

567) LILLIANA BARONE

568) DYLAN BARONE

569) Melody Price - The last thing we need is more homes. Can't we raise just as much tax money by renting out schools ? I have a vacant school next to me and it has been vacant for a long time. What a waste of taxpayers money. Especially after the millions of dollars spent on redoing the property. just my opinion

570) WILLIAM BENNYWORTH - I HAVE 4 CHILDREN WHO ARE INVOLVED IN CUB SCOUTS, GIRL SCOUTS, AND YOUTH SPORTS, ALL OF WHICH MAKE USE OF THESE SITES. IT IS APPARENT THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS WHO VOTED, EITHER DON'T LIVE IN THE AREA, OR JUST DON'T CARE ABOUT THE PROPER UP-BRINGING OF THE CHILDREN WHO DO MAKE THIS GREAT SOUTHEAST HUNTINGTON BEACH THEIR HOME. THIS JUST GOES TO SHOW YA, THAT ALL MIGHTY BUCK WILL ALWAYS TAKE THE TROPHY OVER THE EXPENDABLE FOLKS WHO TRULY MAKE THIS NEIGHBORHOOD GREAT, (LET ME TELL YA, IT AIN'T THE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS!!!

571) Tom Petrosino - Once the property is sold-off and all the money is spent (within a year or 2, maybe 3 at the most

572) Gary Stuart

573) Jacqui Lewis - We live in one of these neighborhoods and plan to send our son to Brethren Christian High School. The sale of these sites would be a huge loss and a huge mistake - we definitely do not need more houses in this area and we definitely do need to keep what little open and green space we already have. We also need to provide space so private schools can operate locally - otherwise our children who wish to pursue a Christian education have to go and spend their dollars in other cities, far away. Look at Irvine - they have tons of open, green space and tons of private school, we do not - are we so interested in money that we are willing to look like some low-class city that has nothing but housing? It would be a huge mistake to let go of what few fields we have - where will the children play soccer or run and play at all, and what will the city look like when it has no school space available? Huntington Beach School District would be overwhelmingly short-sighted if they were to sell these school sites - where will all those children who move in even go to school???

574) Chris Lewis

575) Donia Hodge

576) Stephen Marciniec - Please do not demolish schools and their fields to build more houses. Huntington Beach already has a very high housing density. Unlike some other parts of the country, the vast majority of homes here don't have large yards where children can play sports. The parks and fields associated with these schools are vital to keep our kids active and fit.

577) Michelle Marciniec

578) Julie Kollar

579) Steven Warren - Open land is becoming scarce, HB is supposed to have so much open land per concentration of population. Let's not crowd more people into an area with less open land for recreation! Selling precious school properties is a short term band-aid to a bigger problem that will come back to bite!

580) Kathy Warren

581) jack hubbard - I support our cause to prevent any erosion of our family oriented valuable space.

582) Vickie Tombrello - what are you thinking, just look at the numbers increasing at the local grammar schools, please look at something other than $$$$$$$$

606) Dr. Nancy Davis

607) Thomas H Hutchins - I live in the neighborhood where one of the Christian Day Schools is now in progress and I think the property is being used in a wonderful God pleasing way. The children will realize more benefits from the use of the Christian school than they would from money the city would get from developers and property owners in taxes after development.

608) Laurie Wilson

609) Geoff Wilson

610) Paul L. Page - The school board of directors need to step up to the plate. Is this the legacy they want to leave for themselves. Don't do irreversible decisions that will impact the future of children.

611) Pattie Siegel

612) David Slader - 1. The School Board must be held ethically and fiscally accountable to the tax payers 2. We may be able to conduct a voter recall if they are not. A recall can be based on Nonfeasance (the intentional, repeated failure to perform required duties of the officer 3. But first, we need to force them to present their plan to a independent review board of selected financial and community experts

648) Sydney Siegel

649) Frank V. Daniels - We need to maintain these sites for their current use and to have open spaces in Huntington Beach

650) Kathy Daniels - These sites must remain open and used as they are today. We must not sell them to developers and reduce our open spaces.

651) mary thompson

652) Carrie Crisell

653) John Despot

654) Marian Crisell

655) Lee Crisell

656) Jim Gatherum - Enough development. Save the park!

657) Linda King

658) Joe Alvarez - I have lived in southern California all my life and have watched how this beautiful area is being destroyed by overbuilding. When do we say enough? There are too many people which create trash, human waste, traffic, not to mention a lower quality of life. Personally I don't care if another home builder gets rich.

659) Joseph Ferretti - These properties are totally priceless to our community. Once they are gone, there will be no reversal of the damage that will be wrought by the sale of any of them. As these properties would have to be sold to residential developers, where does the board expect/PLAN for those families' kids to go to school--more portables? Maybe on the beach or at Central park? Further, if school enrollment is actually declining, at best, isn't that indicative of no growth in HB's population or at worst, a decline in HB's population at large? If so, do we need more houses? Certainly, to listen to the laments of most of the board members, these prospective developers won't be able to market the quality of our school system as an enticement to the prospective new home buyer. According to the board itself, the district is way under funded (or way over budget, depending on perspective

660) Allison Alvarez - With the direction that public schools are going I believe it is very important to keep our private schools going. Developers will need to go somewhere else.

661) Laurie Hitchcock

662) Kevin A. Smith

663) Jason L. Smith

664) Carly R. Smith

665) Adrian Garan - We need the development of young minds instead of developing new homes!!! Our future depends on the new generations of people not track homes!!!

666) Frederick Palmer - We don't need more houses. We need better schools for our kids. These are better schools and need to be saved!

667) Penny Akashi - Please do not take away this place that children and families enjoy!

669) Mark Harrer

670) Sydney Hitchcock

671) Uri Azgour - 20662 Spindrift Lane Huntington Beach, CA 92646

672) Charles Trout - If this property was given to the school district and now they need it; I suggest that if and when new schools are needed that this school district be financially held responsible to obtain new land and building for future needs. My understand is that the current schools were donated to the school district by developers. It was for the family and residents of the community. How can they then sell it for financial gain?

673) Terri Siegel

674) Douglas Washburn - and family We need more parks not less. Open space in pmortant to the health of the community

675) Cathie Lightfoot

676) James Taylor - save Lebard for the children

677) Geraldine Taylor - save Lebard for the children who are the future of our country

678) Lisa Jones Barker - These schools and facilities are vital, contributing parts of the quality of life in Huntington Beach. Let's not take the easy way out to solve budget problems. The last thing we need in HB is a higher population density. Preserve these green spaces please!!!

679) George Barker

680) Elliott Sutton - Please remember to keep these green areas open for all our neighbors and our city. Our neighborhood needs the schools close to the families and all of us enjoy the open areas for walks and recreation.

708) Greg Cernok

709) Guy Buker

710) Cindy McVey

711) Nola Cooper - My family has been in HB since the 1920s. I was born, raised and educated here as were my two sons. Living across the park from Huntington Christian School I have seen what a wonderful job they have done for the neighborhood. They have improved and maintained a facility owned by the school district. If this were a vacant, dilapidated property I could understand the district considering a sale. Why not continue to lease to this beneficial occupant and retain ownership in case of future enrollment growth and need for more schools? If the property were sold, where would the district find property in the area to house future students? Being a nearby resident I would not be in favor of further residential development and loss of open space, but even more important is retention of the property for the school district.

720) Ronald L. Peevey - This community is already way overburdened by development. Developers need to leave us alone.

721) Angie Sciarappa

722) JaAnn Tognoni - I'm a teacher. School grounds were set aside for the community. If these areas are not needed for schools, then they should be turned into parks and recreational areas, not profit centers for developers.

723) David Lepper

724) Donna Lepper

725) Nicole Konca - I recently moved to a neighborhood in HB because of the proximity to the park and schools for my children. Please do not consider taking away these community resources!

728) Nathan Dendinger

733) Johnny Mosham - I do not want the Huntington Beach City School District to sell school sites to developers. I want to have them preserved for school and community resources, both now and in the future.

734) Cengiz Yagcioglu

735) Jody Hamlin

736) Ivan Axelrod - Please retain these facilities for our children and their children. We do not have to develop every square inch of property for development

737) Omar A Medina - With all development going on we will need these schools in the near future. Save our schools, our children's futures are at stake.

744) Toni Vrsalovich

745) Gayle Gannes Rosenthal

746) Paul Skinner - We badly need these areas for recreation and space. More houses we don't need.

747) Deborah Cole - The private schools that have been occupying HBUSD sites have been excellent caretakers! They are good for the sites and for the community. They need to be allowed to stay!

750) Ahmet Karadag

751) Lawrence R, Sellars

753) Mehmet Yesildal - It's not right to sell school sites to developers. We already can not provide our kids with enough educational opportunities, we should be giving the kids more instead of trying ot make money on our future's (kids

754) Katrina Washburn

755) Cindy Wick - I strongly agree.

756) Barbara Vuncanon - I love having Huntington Christian School on site in a location that is meant for and should stay as it was intended - a school! This school is running at full capacity and maintains the premises beautifully. I am AGAINST selling any of the school properties. Stop the greediness (who is greasing the palms of our city officials?

765) DAN VAROL

766) Marilyn Skinner - I do not wish Huntington Beach to sell off school property. We are neighbors to the Gisler site and enjoy having the property remain a school. The field is always in use during and after school for soccer. We do not need any additional home and traffic. Thank you.

767) Omer Kutuk - I do not want the Huntington Beach City School District to sell school sites to developers. I want to have them preserved for school and community resources, both now and in the future.

774) David Martin

775) Joyce Salter

776) Jim Salter

777) Debbie Lee Stair - I am also a neighbor of Brethren Christian School, and agree that they provide resources for children and adults from all of Huntington Beach. If these school sites are sold to developers, it will only increase the amount of students in the area and over crowd the schools. There are many homes for sale right now in HB. We don't need additional concrete at the cost of losing "green space."

778) Joslyn Wood

779) Sheldon Nadler

780) Lisa Nadler

781) Lora Wood

782) Stan Wood

783) Edward Kenneth Francis Jr.

784) Mary Oakes - Please keep the Huntington Christian School on Levee. It has been a wonderful addition to our neighborhood.

785) Stephanie Allespach

786) Susan Schaben - We would like the city to keep our school sites for the future of Huntington Beach's residents.

787) Allen Schaben

788) Melissa Berdelis

789) Michael Berdelis

790) Kenneth E. Normann - Keep our open Space! Don't put in High Density low income housing and lower our property values!

791) steve motske

792) mary motske

793) Sharon Augenstein - the existing schools are already packed and over capacity. Taking away the existing school sites and adding more houses will only add more kids to our schoolsystem, stressing our existing resources even more and lowering the quality of education our children receive!

794) MaryAnn Augenstein - we need to keep these school sites open for the future. The population of HB will turn. We have already seen a number of new young families move into the area. We need to maintain enough space to provide our city's children with quality education. Cramming them in to fewer schools is not the answer.

795) James Lombardo - Is it really necessary to convert existing parks to housing developments? What about our children? Will there be land allocated to replace the park acreage? WE NEED MORE PARKS...not less...

796) Teresa Lockwood

797) Marcia Margolis

798) Margarita Soloria - A society is judged on how well they treat their elderly and their children...how do you want to be known?

799) Loleen Klueger

800) Varini DESILVA - The reason for living in HB is the beautiful environment and ambiance. If developers are allowed to build in the scarce open and green areas we have left this city will end up as a congested eyesore!! PLEASE do not let greed overcome common sense and good values. A very concerned HB resident.

801) Marinka Horack - My comments: The Public Schools belong to the public whose taxes paid for them. School campuses are an important part of the community's permanent open space, and serve as sports playing fields and park space. The loss of open space forever is too drastic a decision to be made by only 5 people. The District must listen to the taxpayers on this one. What will you do when high density housing is put in place of the open space. Where will you find classroom space for all the new children that move into the new housing? The Quality of Life of our community will go downhill with less open space, more density, traffic, and demand on city and county services. Once the profits from the sale of schools are spent, they are gone. Real estate, however is always of value. Continue to lease the campuses. That's a much longer term investment in the future of our community and schools. - signed, Marinka Horack, HB Resident

802) Lena Hayashi - In our already built out city, let's keep the traffic and density down by continuing to lease to the private schools or converting the space for passive or active recreational parks. Incorporating native plants which are drought tolerant would be ideal. There are many that are beautiful year around!

803) John Scott

804) Fred Galluccio, MD FAAFP - It is not likely that we will have less children in the future. Past experiences with selling schools in areas where the normal cycle of an aging area "recycles" to a younger area with children, has shown that this is a mistake. It costs more to repurchase the property if it is even possible later. The money that is made now is short sited in its accumulation and use. Please do not sell this land off. If you like make it into open space and rebuild later as needed...more development would only increase the need for more schools. It does not make sense to me, at all, to sell off our school land.

805) Joe Shaw

806) Lori Costigan

807) Jan Vandersloot - Open space and parks become more valuable to a community, the bigger and more congested the community gets. These school sites should not be sold off to developers but retained for school and community resources.

808) Theresa Chaque - I am against selling these school grounds to developers. They need to be used for parks, open space, sports facilities, senior centers, or something for our children and citizens. Once they are gone they are gone. Irreplaceable. Build a community garden on one or an urban forest. Put in a field of solar panels and sell electricity. Create something on these sites other than more condos, buildings, stores, cement, paving, noise, traffic, etc. Don't you think we have enough of that? You may even be able to acquire enough money or make money to keep the sites. There are grants and other resources if you just look beyond just selling the land to make money. Get creative and do the right thing for us.

809) TIM F. DELENER - I do not want the Huntington Beach City School District to sell school sites to developers. I want to have them preserved for school and community resources, both now and in the future.

810) Eileen Murphy - It is always so shortsighted because a neighborhood gets older to sell the schools. Those houses will be resold to families and the school cycle will start again. if we don't learn from the past we have to relive it. It happens everytime with the developers ready to pounce in and build on the school sites. Don't sell the sites.

811) Lynda A. Hernandez - Let's take a long-term view of Huntington Beach's community needs. Do not sell the land connected to four schools. Developers will grab it up, develop homes and increase the traffic in our neighborhoods. We will need these schools again so just lease them. Thank you!

812) Maureen Vasquez

813) Richard Vasquez

814) AHMET YAVUZ KAVALCIOGLU

815) Catherine Muncey

816) Marie Bisson - Please keep LeBard School open. The neighbors are afraid of high-rise condominiums going in --they would be right across the street from some of us.

817) Barry A. Bisson - The school district presently has no need of money from such a sale. If money is received, it will be wasted!! (now is not an advantageous time to sell anyway

818) Barbara Davison - Please save the little bit of vacant land that HB has...No more houses

819) Doyle Davison

820) Marian L. Crisell - at the rate H.B. is growing it would be foolish to sell and then later have to buy land for new school buildings. Better to keep what exists and lease it until needed.

821) sezen aliyazicioglu

822) Jevon Hadley - You have a responsibility to the people in this city to ensure that our children have a place to play. We ask that you honor the trust placed in you by your community

823) Nancy Hadley

824) Amber Witherby

825) Monica Reuter

826) Lesley Peterson - I thought the schools that are being occupied were too crowded as it is. Why not utilize the schools that we have. It would cost less to fix them up than to build new.

827) Bill DeMeulle - I have lived here for more than 45 years and this topic keeps coming up. When will they learn we don't need any more homes and we may need more schools, when will the developers learn. Read our lips NO!!!!

828) Amy Zamuner - 8781 Burlcrest Drive, HB, CA 92646

829) Kim Barone

830) Julian Vochelli

831) Janet Vochelli

832) Mr. Julian Vochelli - It's literally heart-breaking to witness the incremental destruction of nearly all of our open spaces and parks under the name of "progress" (pushed by ruthless developers and greedy real estate people

833) Laura Peterson

834) Kathy Novelli

835) Leo Novelli

836) Kenneth Todd

837) Staci Stinson

838) David Carman - We need to save our green areas, even if all they are are old run down schools. They are used for many different community organizations. Just drive by any given one on a Saturday morning there are people there.

839) Jennifer Todd

840) Kristin Johnson

841) Joy Frye - Both of my kids play in Seaview Little League. They were heartbroken at the news that they might not be able to play in our neighborhood any more. Please save our fields!

842) Rex Frye

843) Christian Cuellar

844) Nancy Pierson - This would be absolutely devastating to our kids...we do not need anymore homes, we need places for our kids to go instead!

845) Steve Dimond - Huntington Beach, CA. Please do not sell off the properties. Continue the leases to the private schools or maintain the properties as open space parklands. The property is much to valuable to the people of HB and, eventually, it is possible that we will need the properties once again for public schools or some other equally important public issue. HB is nearly built out. Let's maintain the ownership of what we can so that we do not have to condemn and take private property in the future for something that these properties would be quite appropriate for.

846) Sarah Toscano

847) Benito Casados - These resources should be preserved for educational and community use only. Once this land is gone there is no way of recovering it. We do not need more residents, more cars and more congestion in Huntington Beach. Let try to preserve the quality of life in our community!

848) Harriet Miller

849) Deborah Janus - Please do not sell off all of these school properties.

850) James A Salywoda

851) Eleanor Salywoda

852) Joanne Richardson - I have lived in HB for 41 years an
